Last updated: 18 November, 2024 @ 12:04

Supermarket chain Aldi says it has invested more than £45m in the British seafood industry over the past 12 months.

The increased investment is part of the supermarket’s ongoing commitment to ‘championing Great British quality and supporting more UK suppliers‘.

The UK’s third largest fish retailer, Aldi says that it will continue to expand its British-sourced fish, with 20 new products already launched in 2024, including its British pollack, chunky breaded cod and haddock.

Sustainably-sourced British fish

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we are incredibly proud of the long-standing relationships we have with British fisheries across the country.

“This increased investment demonstrates our commitment to these partnerships and our dedication to providing our customers with high-quality, sustainably sourced British fish.”

Seafood sourced responsibly

Aldi works in collaboration with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) to ‘drive continuous improvement of fisheries’.

To ensure its products are sourced responsibly, the supermarket chain uses certification programmes such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for wild-caught fish and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) for farmed fish and seafood.
