The final week of July saw the first bluefin tuna of the season auctioned at the world-famous Brixham Fishmarket.

This year’s season kicked off in spectacular fashion, with two magnificent fish – the heaviest of which weighed in at a hefty 136.5kg – auctioned at the fishmarket in Devon on Monday, 28 July.

More bluefin tuna has been landed throughout the week, with large fish also auctioned at Newlyn Fishmarket in Cornwall.

This year, 15 licences have been granted to fishing vessels, with a quota of 3,000kg each.

The Athena and the Aquila were two of the first local boats to land bluefin tuna to market.
