Fishing News Awards: Has your local fisherman been shortlisted?

Fishing News Awards 2022

Last updated: 4 November, 2024 @ 12:04

Have you ever wanted to know more about the fishermen out there catching the wonderful seafood that ends up on our plates?

The prestigious Fishing News Awards recognise achievement, innovation, and success in the UK and Irish commercial fishing industry.

The shortlists for this year’s awards have just been announced – and that presents a golden opportunity for us as seafood enthusiasts to learn a little more about the people out there doing the catching.

Some of the UK’s finest fishermen

As consumers, we can be guilty of being detached from the very source of our seafood – the fishermen.

The Fishing News has written some interesting biographies for all of the fishermen nominated, from those fishing for Cockles in the south, to those targeting Prawns and Langoustines in the north.

For us as seafood consumers, the profiles provide an informative insight to the men and women, up and down the country, who are sourcing the food that ends up on our plates.

Vote for your favourite

The biographies are well worth a read, and indeed, you even have the opportunity to vote for your favourite fisherman.

There are four different categories, including ‘Young Fisherman of the Year’ and ‘Trainee Fisherman of the Year’.

Voting closes on Monday, 11 April.

The winners are announced at a gala awards ceremony on Thursday, 12 May.

The Fishing News is a great read for anyone interested in learning about the often forgotten side of seafood – the catching.
