The best Brown Crab snack in the world

The brown meat from a brown crab on toast

Picking the meat from a cooked Brown Crab can be a testing experience - but one definitely worth persevering with.

If you're not sure how to pick meat from a Brown Crab, there's a wealth of tutorials on YouTube - this is one of the best.

Our own tip is to invest in a decent crab picking tool set - like this one from Amazon, - make sure your hands are cold, and to really take your time - there's no need to rush (unless you have a bus to catch, in which case you shouldn't really be picking crab meat anyway).

White crab meat is fantastic, and particularly good in pasta dishes - we're talking spaghetti, linguine and ravioli here.

Additionally, don't waste the shell of a Brown Crab, as it makes for a wonderful shellfish stock.

However, here's our out-of-this-world recipe for the brown meat from a Brown Crab.

Brown Crab meat - overlooked, but oh-so-good

The brown meat of a Brown Crab is often neglected, and overlooked for the more plentiful white meat found within a Brown Crab - but our very own recipe for this divine delicacy will ensure you'll never, ever overlook the brown meat of a Brown Crab again!

Description

This simple recipe takes the brown meat of a Brown Crab to another level.

Great as a starter (to crab linguine - using the white meat of a Brown Crab perhaps) there's only one rule which must be followed:

  1. Use the freshest crab possible!

The exact measurements for this fantastic recipe will vary depending on the amount of brown meat you've manage to pick from your Brown Crab. Our advice would be to experiment and refine to taste!

Let's get cracking πŸ¦€

Ingredients
  • 3 tbsp of cooked brown meat from a Brown Crab
  • 4-6 tbsp of mayonnaise
  • A few drop of Worcestershire Sauce
  • A few drop of Cholula Hot Sauce
  • A good squeeze of fresh lime
  • 2 tsp of chopped tarragon
  • 2 pinch of sea salt
  • Black pepper (to taste)
  • Some really good rustic bread, or sourdough
Preparation
    The brown meat
  1. Pick your crab meat

It may take some time to pick your crab meat, especially if you're just learning your crab picking trade!

There's plenty of crab picking tutorials on YouTube - we like this one πŸ‘‡

  2. Chop the tarragon

Nice and easy this one - simply fine chop your tarragon.

  3. Let's cook
  4. Mix everything together!

Not only is the recipe super tasty, it's also incredibly easy.

Simply mix together the mayonnaise, crab meat, chopped tarragon, Worcestershire Sauce, Cholula Hot Sauce and lime.

You're looking for a thick mayonnaise-type consistency here - we don't want a runny mess!

  5. Grill the bread

Make the toast - either under a grill or in a toaster.Β

If you're feeling particularly decadent, you could make your toast in a searingly hot griddle pan.Β

  6. Season to taste

Add salt and pepper to taste (and maybe another squeeze of lime!)

  7. Serve, eat, and transport yourself to a brown crab meat wonderland

Spread the crab meat mixture onto the toast.

Eat immediately - whilst nodding the head and making approving noises 😍

As the great Rick Stein would say, "delish!" πŸ˜‹
